What is Prototype mold?

Definition: Early industrial samples were made purely by hand, so they became Prototype. The model is the product of modern industry. Integrated computer aided design (CAD), computer aided manufacturing (CAM), computer numerical control (CNC) and other advanced technology make the 3D models built on computers from the whole material, thus modern industry is called the Prototype Mold.

Classification

• Means of production

According to means of production, Prototype mold can be divided into handle prototype and CNC prototype:

1. Handle prototype: The main workload is done by hand. It’s divided into abs prototype and plastocene prototype. 
2. CNC prototype: The main workload is accomplished by CNC. According to different equipment, there are Rapid Prototyping and CNC Prototyping.

Rapid Prototyping: It’s mainly produced by 3D printing technology(Advantages:  Quickly Fabricate. However, construction of the part or assembly is usually done using 3D printing or "additive layer manufacturing" technology. Thus RP hand board is generally rough, but also have certain requirements on the wall thickness of the product, for example, the wall thickness can't be too thin.)

CNC Prototyping: It’s mainly produced by CNC machine.(Advantages:  CNC prototype: it accurately reflects the information presented on the drawing.)

• Material

1. Plastic Prototype: The raw materials for plastic, plastic products are mainly some of the hand, such as television sets, monitors, telephones and so on.
2. Silicone Prototype: Its raw materials for the silicone, the main product design is to show the shape of the prototype, such as cars, mobile phones, toys, handicrafts, daily necessities and so on.
3. Metal Prototype: The raw materials for the aluminum-magnesium alloy and other metal materials, mainly for some high-end products prototype, such as laptops, advanced single-player, MP3 players, CD players and so on.

The necessary of the prototype mold

• Test the design

   Prototype mold is not only visible but also touchable. It can intuitively reflect the designer's ideas in kind and avoid the disadvantages of "drawing good looks and not looking good". Therefore, Prototype mold production in the development of new products, product appearances in the process is essential.

• Test structure design

   Because the prototype mold can be assembled, so it can intuitively reflect the structure is reasonable or not, the difficult degree of installation. Facilitate the early detection of problems and solve problems.

• The risk of direct make a mold

    As the mold manufacturing costs are generally high, large mold worth fifteen thousand or even hundred thousand USD. If you found in the structure of unreasonable or other problems in the process of make a mold, the loss can be imagined. Prototype mold can avoid this loss and reduce the risk of make a mold.

• Products available in advance

    You can use the prototype for product promotion before the mold is developed, and even pre-sales, production preparation, early occupation of the market
